stressed about safety practices due to covid-19? here are 7 ways to overcome them

The new normal has us changing our lifestyle and adopting new habits. However, there are downsides as we try to adjust to these new protocols.

There is the fear of being in contact with an infected person, wearing masks the wrong way, having to provide our personal details numerous times a day, and worrying about our loved ones who are more high risk to the pandemic.

Think positive as there’s always a solution, and here are seven things you can do to help you adjust:

#1 Use an extender if your mask irritates your ear

The back of our ears is a tender spot and those of you who have sensitive skin might find it to be inflamed and uncomfortable. An extender could be your solution!

You can purchase an extender online or even DIY it by using paperclips and rubber bands.

#2 Place your mask in a zip lock bag when not in use

When you purchase reusable masks, they come ready in zip lock packaging. If they don’t, or if you’re using single-use face masks, grab a zip lock bag from the kitchen and you’re good to go.

That way, when your mask is not in use, you can still ensure its hygiene.

#3 Download the MySejahtera app so you don’t need to write or type so much

The MySejahtera app is really nifty. Just sign up once and you can use the app to scan QR codes in the future. You don’t need to keep typing your details or touch pens and log books.

The MySejahtera app keeps track of places you’ve visited for easy contact tracing.

#4 Bring your own water bottles, cutlery, straws AND food from home!

You may have been against the idea of bringing your own straws around when plastic straws were banned. Soon enough, you’ll also get used to bringing your own cutlery and food containers.

There are cute sets available online and in stores. Bring along a small, travel-sized bottle filled with dish soap to clean your cutlery. It’s also a chance to start a healthy diet by bringing food from home.

If you haven’t made it a habit, start bringing a water bottle around as well to avoid drinking from cups.

#5 Shower right after you get home

Many of us don’t practice showering the moment we get home from school, work or outings. This is especially important if you have people at home who are more susceptible to COVID-19 such as children, the elderly and those with existing medical conditions. Hop into the shower the moment you get home and help keep them safe.

#6 Bring wet wipes and a small bottle of sanitiser everywhere you go

No matter how clean you think a place is, remember that bacteria and viruses aren’t obvious to the naked eye. Make it a habit to use anti-bacterial wet wipes for public surfaces such as washroom lids, tables, chairs, and door handles.

Carry a travel-sized hand sanitiser with you so that you can sanitise your hands, bags and clothes when in crowded or enclosed spaces. This is especially important before you step into your car and your home.

Remember to wash your hands with soap often!
