Filipinos refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine will be jailed.

President Rodrigo Duterte gave this warning as the Philippines became one of the Asian countries hardest hit by the pandemic, with 1.3 million positive cases and more than 23,000 deaths.
The President reportedly said during a televised speech on Monday (June 21st), “You choose, vaccine or I’ll put you in jail,” as the turnout at vaccination centres in Manila were low.
However, local health officials reassured the public that it will still be offered on a voluntary basis even if they are urged to get the vaccine.
“Don’t get me wrong, there is a crisis in this country. I am just taken aback with Filipinos ignoring government directives,” he said.
As of June 20th, 2.1 million individuals are vaccinated - It is still considered slow progress as they are targeted to reach 70 million by the end of the year in a country of 110 million.
