Joe Biden’s parting gesture for President Donald Trump came in the form of a heartfelt letter, a tradition for outgoing presidents to leave behind for their successors. Days after Biden’s inauguration as the 47th president, Trump shared with White House reporters that he had found the note from Biden while signing executive orders in front of the press, according to Fox News.

In the letter, Biden wished Trump and his family the best for the next four years. "As I take leave of this sacred office, I wish you and your family all the best in the next four years," Biden wrote. He continued, “The American people—and people around the world—look to this house for steadiness in the inevitable storms of history, and my prayer is that in the coming years will be a time of prosperity, peace, and grace for our nation.” Biden concluded with a blessing: "May God bless you and guide you as He has blessed and guided our beloved country since our founding."

Trump later described the letter as a meaningful gesture, calling both the note and the office itself “important” and noting that he appreciated the letter.

Trump shared the contents of Biden’s letter shortly after he and Vice President JD Vance were sworn into office on Inauguration Day. The inauguration was a momentous occasion, attended by former presidents Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, as well as tech industry leaders like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos.

Before the ceremony, Biden and Dr. Jill Biden greeted the Trump family outside the White House. The outgoing president also welcomed Trump and Melania Trump with the words, “Welcome home!” according to The Washington Post.

As a final gesture, Biden shared a selfie with his wife, captioned with "One final photo. We love you America," as they left the White House, marking the end of their time there.
