Driven by the delta variant, Italy is facing another surge as the number of new cases doubled over the past week with more than 5,000 infections (22nd July).

According to BBC’s Mark Lowen, about half of the Italian population are now fully vaccinated, but the summer holiday season is dissuading some to turn up for their appointments.

Italy has confirmed more than 4.3 million infections since the start of the outbreak with 128,000 Covid-related deaths.
