Binge-watchers, beware! New research shows that watching too much of your favourite show at once puts you at risk of developing a dangerous blood clot.

The study was conducted on 15,000 adults in the US, over a period of 20 years. During the 20 years, it was discovered that the participants who spent long hours watching TV were at a much higher risk of developing blood clot, even if they regularly exercised.

“Physical inactivity is a risk factor for every cardiovascular disease, including blood clots,” says Dr James Catanese, a cardiologist.

So how do we prevent this?

"Think about how you're spending your time, and see if you can take advantage of your TV time to get some activity in," advises Dr Mary Cushman, professor of medicine at the University of Vermont's Larner Medical College.

Dr Cushman’s personal solution is to walk on the treadmill while watching TV. Dr Catanese agrees, stating that he rides the stationary bike while he watches TV.
