Schools Get Extra Day Off For Hari Raya

There will be an additional day off for schools in conjunction with Hari Raya.

According to the latest update from the Education Ministry Wednesday March 18th has been declared a holiday for all schools nationwide to allow teachers, parents and students to prepare for the festive season.

Earlier, the ministry had already announced that schools in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will get the 19th off, while those in all other states will be off on the 19th and 20th.

Speaking of Raya…Prasarana says steps have been taken to ensure that public transport runs smoothly over the holidays.

It adds that rail, bus, van and on-demand services will be operating as usual even though passenger numbers are expected to drop by half during the period.

Experts are calling for a thorough investigation into a recent incident in Teluk Intan, where a student was killed after being accidentally struck by a long-handled sickle.

The sharp tool was being carried by two foreign farm workers who were passing by on a motorcycle.

The Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health says the incident highlights unsafe work practices and a lack of proper SOP’s on the handling of dangerous equipment.

It also wants stern action taken, including against the workers’ employer, if negligence can be proven.
