The Health Ministry is urging those in areas where the API reading exceeds 100 to take the necessary precautions.
This includes wearing a mask outdoors, staying hydrated and avoiding strenuous activity.
It’s also calling on the public to pay closer attention to vulnerable groups like kids, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.
It comes as 11 areas are experiencing unhealthy air quality readings.
Seven of these localities are in Sarawak, while the rest are in Putrajaya, KL, Selangor and Perak.
Samarahan is the worst-affected with an API reading of 182.

The RCI report on Tabung Haji will be sent to the police, MACC, Bank Negara, IRB and other relevant agencies for a full investigation into the matter.
The government says besides the details in the report, the probe will also go through additional information provided by Cabinet ministers during the recent special Parliamentary sitting on the RCI report.

Airspace over KLIA will be closed at different times from the 26th to the 29th and on the 31st to make way for the National Day flypast and its rehearsals.
Those travelling in or out of KLIA on the affected days are advised to check the latest flight status with their respective airlines.
