Malaysia's Upgraded Passport Rollout Postponed

You'll have to wait a little longer to issue a new, enhanced passport.

That's because the planned rollout of the upgraded passport has been postponed.

The Immigration Department explained that the delay was necessary to ensure smooth service delivery and an optimal counter experience for the public.

However, it assured that Malaysians can continue renewing their existing passports as usual.

All current passports will remain valid for travel until their respective expiry dates.

The department had previously announced that the new version of the travel document will debut on June 1st.

The upcoming edition will feature 94 security upgrades designed to prevent tampering and forgery.

This includes hidden visual components, holograms, and ultraviolet printing.

In fact, even the thread used to bind the booklet will incorporate special security features.

The Prime Minister has once again reassured that Malaysians need not worry about petrol supply.

He says there's enough petrol to last until August, despite the global energy crisis sparked by the Middle East war.

The PM explained that the government was able to ensure sufficient supply thanks to the country's good relations with Iran...which helped Malaysia's ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Road Transport Department will deploy two thousand officers nationwide this week to improve road safety in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha and the school holidays.

The Transport Ministry says the operation will focus on accident-prone hotspots and inspections of commercial vehicles, particularly express buses.

However, the ministry assured that no roadblocks will be carried out during the festive season to avoid worsening traffic congestion.
