Govt Mulls Tougher Laws Against 3R Offences

The government is considering introducing new laws or amending current legislation to better address issues related to race, religion and royalty.

Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil says the Cabinet has decided that firm and decisive action must be taken over the matter.

This includes addressing possible loopholes in the law that allow certain individuals to ignore enforcement measures.

The government is currently studying proposals to allow withdrawals from the EPF account 2 to pay for base medical and health insurance under the i-Lindung scheme.

The Finance Ministry says withdrawals will be voluntary, and will come from an account that already has an allocation for health and protection purposes.

It also assured that the main retirement savings under Account 1 will not be affected.

The heavy vehicle ban for the Hari Raya travel period will start next Thursday.

The Transport Ministry says the restriction will be enforced on March 19th and 20th…as well as on the 28th and 29th.

This is to ensure the safety of motorists…with millions expected on major highways over the holidays.

The Fire and Rescue Department says yesterday’s hillside forest fire in Seri Kembangan has been completely extinguished after an overnight operation by the Fire Department.

Personnel will also be conducting follow-up monitoring at the site today, to ensure the area is completely safe.

Cops will summon an independent preacher in Penang to assist investigations into allegations of making provocative and racist comments on social media.

Separately, police have recorded statements from 12 individuals to assist with investigations into the death of a four-month-old baby at a childrcare center within the grounds of the Seberang Jaya Hospital.

The Human Resources Ministry says the planned insurance scheme for Malaysians travelling for work in Singapore…should be ready by the second quarter of the year.
