The government is cracking down on the import and sale of electrical goods that fail to meet safety standards.

The Finance Ministry says this includes items sold online and in physical stores…that do not carry the required SIRIM certification.

This comes amid an influx of such uncertified electrical goods in the local market.

The ministry says a recent random inspection even found that more than half of all phone charges available for sale, were not certified by SIRIM.

Militant and extremist groups are increasingly using online platforms, including game sites, to identify potential recruits. 

Deputy IGP Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay adds that these groups are also no longer driven solely by religious ideology…with some now being motivated by anger or personal grudges.

He explains that this is why many of those arrested in recent police operations were teenagers.

The Dewan Negara has passed the Sexual Offences Against Children Amendment Bil.

The de-facto Law Ministry says this will enable Malaysian authorities to prosecute perpetrators of child sexual offences who have a clear connection to the country, even when the crimes involved cross-border elements.
