172 To Contest Johor State Election

A total of 172 candidates will contest in the upcoming Johor state election.

This, after yesterday’s nomination process saw Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan field candidates for each of the 56 seats.

Perikatan Nasional will be fielding 33 candidates, Parti Bersama will have 15 candidates, MUDA will have four, Asli and PSM will each be fielding one candidate while six independents will also be contesting.

Of the total seats 14 will see straight fights, 27 will feature three-cornered contests, 12 will involve four candidates while three seats will see five-cornered fights.

The Johor election will be held on July 11th with early voting to take place on the 7th.

More than one in four Malaysian drug addicts who are undergoing rehabilitation this year, have also been diagnosed with mental health issues.

The National Anti Drugs Agency says this is a sharp increase from last year when only around six percent had both substance addiction and psychiatric disorders.

It adds that most of the psychiatric conditions were linked to the use of synthetic drugs.
