Ecuador Shock Germany

Ecuador came from behind to record a shock 2-1 win over Germany in their final Group E tie at the football festival in North America.

The South American side are now through to the last-32 as one of the best third-placed teams while the Germans go through as group winners despite the defeat.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast also made the knockout round as Group E runners-up, thanks to their 2-0 victory over Curacao.

This year’s football festival in North America is the best-attended in the tournament’s history.

The sports’ governing body says the 2026 edition has surpassed the 1994 record of nearly 3.6 million spectators.

Sources say total attendance for this year is expected to nearly double the 1994 figure, with stadiums recording 99 percent capacity on average.

In other news…Lewis Hamilton is not ruling out the possibility of him winning a record eighth F1 world title. 

This comes as the 41-year-old lies second in the drivers’ standings having recorded one win and two second place finishes in the last three races.
