Scam Losses On The Rise

The latest data from a cybersecurity firm shows that approximately 2.7 billion ringgit was lost to scams last year. 

This marks a 76 percent increase from 2024.

The company also observed a noticeable spike in cases during festive seasons…when scammers took advantage of the higher number of financial transactions.

Meanwhile, three Malaysians were among a group of 49 suspected scam syndicate members who were arrested in Cambodia over the weekend, accused of targeting victims using fake investment schemes.

The Fire and Rescue Department is warning against carrying out open burning during the ongoing hot spell.

It adds that more than 32 thousand fires involving forests, plantations and scrubland have been recorded nationwide since last year.

Meanwhile, Pokok Sena, Pendang and Baling in Kedah remain under a Level 2 heatwave alert, with expected temperatures of between 37-40 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days. 

According to the Met Department’s latest update…14 other areas across Kedah, Penang, Perlis and Perak are also under the less severe level one heat advisory.

Johor is conducting safety checks on some 15 thousand PPR’s and government rental housing schemes across the state…following a recent incident where a child suffered serious injuries in a fall because of a detached guardrail.

The KL Sessions Court has ordered DBKL to pay over 800 thousand ringgit in damages to a couple, whose son was killed by a fallen tree back in 2023.

And a UK study has found that inaccurate information about ADHD and autism on social media, has been linked with a rise in young people believing they have the neurodevelopmental conditions.

The researchers also found that the level of misinformation about the conditions was higher on TikTok, compared to other platforms.
