The famed Michelin-starred chicken rice, Liao Fan Hawker Chan, may be located in Singapore, but it’s now here to Malaysia!
Chan Hon Meng, the world acclaimed Ipoh-born chef who introduced the world to the famous Hong Kong style soy sauce chicken rice, brought his specialty to his hometown in Ipoh on February 26.
He told Malay Mail, “I know there are many chicken rice shops here, but I’m not here to compete. I want the people here to try my version of the dish which has won the award.”
Chan received international acclaim in 2016 when his stall became the first of 2 street food stalls to receive the Michelin-star award.

Upon receiving the award, he has since expanded his business by opening branches in Taiwan, Philippines, Australia and Thailand.
We’ve always wondered what makes his chicken rice so unique, and apparently, instead of dressing the soy sauce after cooking the chicken, he adds soy sauce to the marinade together with 10 other varieties of herbs and braises it.
With the famous Liao Fan chicken rice store opening in Ipoh, we wonder if this could be a nationwide venture!
