Like with all movies depicting a dystopian future of mankind’s own doing, the movie Mortal Engines reminds us that destroying the world doesn’t take very long at all. In fact, in this upcoming movie by the director of Lord of The Rings, 60 minutes is apparently all it took.
Teaming with The Hobbit screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyen, and coming onboard as producer and screenwriter, Peter Jackson’s latest film tells a story about humankind’s new way of living. Gone are cities as we know them: firmly planted into the earth, unmoving.
Instead, cities are now gigantic moving machines that roam the Earth, preying on smaller towns—which are also on wheels and tracks. Words really can’t describe how awesome it looks, so go ahead and watch the trailer instead.
Mortal Engines stars Robert Sheehan as Londoner Tom Natsworthy and Hera Hilmar as the dangerous fugitive, Hester Shaw, and is slated to release on 13 December 2018. We can hardly wait.
