On Wednesday night (April 21st), a fire at the Dolomite industrial park in Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur partly destroyed a food processing plant.
The incident took place around 9:50pm. according to the assistant director (operations) of the Selangor Fire and Rescue, Hafisham Mohd Noor.
He debunked claims that a chemical plant had caught fire on social media and WhatsApp.
"It was a food processing plant and our Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) unit was present at the location to monitor the situation, ” he said.
Four fire engines and two water tankers from Selayang, Rawang, and Seri Hartamas fire stations, as well as the Gombak Volunteer Firemen, were dispatched to the scene, according to Hafisham.
"The first fire engine arrived at the scene around 10pm and we managed to put out the fire by 12.59am," he added.
Hafisham said they performed a size up of the factory and found that at least 40% of the building had caught fire.
There was also no other potential danger after thoroughly inspecting the area.
