A 17-year-old girl who's eligible to sit for the 2019 SPM examinations even though she can't afford to go to school has garnered attention across the country.
A Twitter post from social worker, Asfaridah, went viral recently after she tweeted about the teenager's situation, in hopes that it would help her.
At the time of publishing, the post had more than 14,800 retweets with 5,700 likes, with Malaysians working together to find ways to help her out.
Due to a lack of funds, the 17-year-old has not been to school for a while. Asfaridah explained that the teenager tried walking to school, but it was just too far from home.
The girl’s father used to be an off-shore engineer but quit his job after his wife passed away. Now, he takes care of his three kids, earning only RM500 a month as a mechanic.
Asfaridah explained that the girl’s room is filled with revision notes and a timetable, and she is constantly working and studying hard with the books she has.
We hope that things work out well for her and her family!
