A young boy from the Philippines recently gave his parents a major shock after finding out that their son had spent a substantial amount of money on mobile games.
The boy’s mother was going through her bank statements when she found around 100,000 pesos, equivalent to an estimated RM8,411 after conversion, being spent on mobile downloads and in-app purchases.
The many transactions made to mobile game developers ranged from RM8 to RM480.
It's reported that the boy received his father’s old smartphone last Christmas as a present. He then began spending the money on in-app games, stating that the existing games were too easy.
“I think within the app, you can buy certain stuff. So, he started with that. Then he started to download the paid versions and other games as well,” his mother told a Philippine news portal.
As all parents do, they sat their kids down and gave them the talk and explained to them about the importance of obeying the rules which were set by the parents.
The parents have since added parental controls and passwords on their accounts.
That said, it’s important to know how our kids are using their phones and the games they are playing, especially if the game has intriguing in-app purchases that may sway your kids into buying them.
