Man Utd and Chelsea make the Champions League last-16
Nov 24, 2021
Manchester United have made the Champions League knockout round, with a 2-0 win over Villarreal this morning.
Cristiano Ronaldo kept up his record of scoring in every game of this season’s competition, while Jadon Sancho added the other.
This was also United’s first game since Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was sacked…with Michael Carrick standing in as caretaker manager.
Elsewhere, holders Chelsea have booked their place in the last-16 in convincing fashion.
They thrashed Juventus 4-0 at Stamford Bridge…with Trevor Chelobah, Reece James, Calum Hudson-Odoi and Timo Werner all getting on the scoresheet.
The 4-0 score-line was also Juve’s heaviest defeat in the competition.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s hopes of making the last-16 hang in the balance, after their goalless draw with Benfica.
The Catalan side now needs to win their final group match against Bayern Munich to avoid an early elimination… or hope that Benfica fail to beat Dynamo Kiev.
The Denmark national team has been nominated for FIFA’s 2021 Fair Play Award, for their reaction to Christian Eriksen’s on-field cardiac arrest during Euro 2020.
The players had earned international praise for forming a circle around Eriksen to shield him from the cameras, and comforting his family as the player was given CPR.
Malaysian men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik have moved up one spot to sixth in the latest BWF World Rankings.
It is their highest position, since being paired together in 2017.
