Melaka Gears Up For State Polls

217 polling centres will be opened tomorrow for the Melaka state election. he Election Commission adds that over 12 thousand workers will be on duty to ensure that the election process goes smoothly. 

This, as close to 500 thousand people are expected to take to the polls, in the first election since the state of emergency was lifted. 

The EC has also reminded voters to follow all COVID-19 SOPs, including wearing face masks and maintaining physical distancing. 

Meanwhile, voters who are deemed Persons Under Surveillance and Persons Under Investigation for COVID, should get permission from the District Health Officer before going out to cast their ballots. 

This, as Melaka police assured that they will do their best to ensure a safe election. 

State police say they will receive assistance from Bukit Aman, to face any possible security risks.

More Relaxed SOPs On The Cards For Sarawak Election

The upcoming Sarawak Election could see more relaxed SOPs for campaigning, compared to the ones for Melaka. 

The Election Commission Chairman told the NST that Sarawak has a lower population density compared to Melaka.

As such, the risk of COVID-19 from campaign activities is relatively lower.

Slight Decline in Daily COVID-19 Cases

Malaysia's daily COVID-19 cases remained at above the 6 thousand mark for a third straight day today.

However, new infections fell slightly compared to yesterday, at 6,355.

Nearly 82 percent of adolescents in Malaysia are now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

As for adults, 95.5% of them are fully vaccinated.
