Expert: Booster jabs important to restore vaccine effectiveness

Nov 17, 2021

Vaksin COVID-19: WHO cadang pemberian 'booster' dihentikan seketika | Astro Awani

Booster jabs are important to restore vaccine effectiveness against Covid-19.

Molecular Virologist Dr Vinod Balasubramaniam helps us understand how this works.

"The immunity from vaccination wanes over time, most of the time the first shot of vaccination builds immunity against the disease. It basically primes our immune system to learn about that pathogen from which the vaccine is wane."

The subsequent booster shots are vital, in some cases more than 2 in improving the particular defense against that pathogen.it acts as a reminder against that pathogen.”

This as the Health Minister announced that those who want to get Covid-19 vaccine jabs, including booster shots, but do not have appointments can apply to be on a waiting list from next Monday.

They will then be contacted by private health facilities to replace no-shows or cancellations.
