Health Ministry considering free vaccinations for children under 5

Jul 04, 2016

The Health Ministry is considering free vaccinations for all children under 5, including migrants and refugees.

The Selangor Health Department says children under the age of 5 are vulnerable and their good health should be ensured, regardless of nationality.

This, as a rise in the anti-vaxxer movement is endangering the health of children nationwide.

There were 500 cases of vaccination rejections from parents up til March this year, which is shocking compared to 1,500 cases throughout last year.

The number of measles cases in Selangor has also risen in the past 2 years, with over 400 cases up til March compared to only 23 cases in the whole of 2014.

Meanwhile, a 5-year-old child in Kulim, Kedah who was found to have contracted the vaccine-preventable diphtheria disease on Saturday, is still in intensive care.
