Schools may be closed due to impending heatwave

Mar 14, 2016

The Education Ministry may order schools to be closed temporarily due to the impending heatwave.

It's keeping a close eye on the hot season and will make the call based on advice from the Environment Ministry.

A heatwave has been predicted for 20th March, a day before schools reopen.

Meanwhile, Kedah recorded the highest number of open burning fires due to the El Nino phenomenon, so far this year.

The state was followed by Sabah and Perak, while over 7,700 forest fires have been recorded throughout the country.

Over in Sarawak, the Fire and Rescue Department says most bush and forest fires that happened in Kuala Baram, Miri were arson incidents.
