Fares for land public transport like buses and taxis are not dictated by world oil prices, which have been dropping.
The Land Public Transport Commission, SPAD says petrol and diesel make up only 10 percent of the operating costs for companies providing public transport services.
SPAD adds that there are other influencing elements, like the GST for vehicle spare parts, higher insurance premiums and fluctuating foreign exchange rates.
