KLIA Shooting: No SOP Changes (Yet)

Apr 16, 2024

klia shooter remanded

The KLIA shooting suspect has agreed to cooperate with the police in their investigation.

He said this earlier today after the Magistrate's Court in Kota Bahru issued him a 7-day remand until the 22nd of this month to assist cops.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Anthony Loke has played down proposals to install metal detectors at all airport entrances.

He says they need to take various aspects into consideration first before implementing any SOP changes...

Loke also revealed that several quarters are currently in discussions on how to enhance security at the terminal.

He adds that the discussions will also seek advice from police on how to tighten security.

In a related development, Bukit Aman are not ruling out the possibility that the suspect was trying to apply for a visa.

This, after he went for a medical checkup at a private hospital a week prior to the shooting.

Police also revealed that the 38-year-old had planned to flee to Saudia Arabia through Thailand after he opened fire at the airport's Terminal 1 Arrival Hall at his wife...missing her but injuring her bodyguard.

---

The Transport Ministry is urging private companies to invest in providing electric vehicle charging stations.

Minister Anthony Loke says there's currently only a few hundred charging facilities nationwide, which is far below the government's ten thousand target by next year.

Loke adds that the lack of facilities could result in people feeling discouraged from using EVs.
