semenyih road assault: more arrests made

7 people are now in custody over the death of a motorist who was beaten up by a mob in Semenyih recently.  

According to the Selangor police chief, this is after 2 more suspects were detained.  

Datuk Hussein Omar Khan also says that cops are waiting for lab test results, to confirm the victim's actual cause of death.  

Earlier reports said the victim was assaulted after he tried to flee from an accident scene.

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says the ringgit's current decline cannot be compared to its slide during the Asian Financial Crisis nearly 30 years ago. 

He says in 1998 the ringgit's decline was accompanied by soaring inflation and investors pulling out of the country.  

But for the current situation, Malaysia is still seeing record levels of investments. 

As for the current inflation rate, the Statistics Dept says the consumer price index held steady at 1.5% in January

The Transport Ministry has agreed in principle to allow airlines to introduce carbon emission fees.  

According to its minister, some airlines will use the fee to buy sustainable aviation fuel, while others will pay carbon credit to offset their carbon emissions.

And the Malaysian embassy in Thailand says it is ready to offer consular support to 36 Malaysians who were injured after their tour bus went off the road and crashed near Bangkok yesterday.
