Datuk Seri Najib Razak has failed in his bid to overturn his earlier conviction in the SRC International case.

The three-member Court of Appeal panel unanimously upheld the conviction for one count of abuse of power, three counts of criminal breach of trust, and three counts of money laundering.

The 12 year jail term and 210 million ringgit fine also remain.

The panel also found that the High Court did not commit misdirection in ordering Datuk Seri Najib to enter his defence to all seven charges in the SRC case.

They say the former Premier’s actions in regards to a RM4 billion loan to SRC, was not for national interest, but for personal benefit.

The panel also agreed with the trial judge that there was clear misappropriation of the RM42 million by Datuk Seri Najib for his own use.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal has allowed Najib’s application for a stay of execution, pending his appeal to the Federal Court.

Those entering the country under the VTL or Langkawi travel bubble now face additional SOP’s.

They’ll now have to undergo Covid-19 testing every day for six days after arrival.

The Health Minister says arrivals from the UK, US, Australia, France and Norway on home quarantine, will also need to wear a digital tracking device.

All this is part of additional pre-emptive measures being taken in light of the new Omicron variant.

A study is being conducted on limiting the term of the Prime Minister to no more than 10 years.

The Legal Affairs Division and the AG’s Chambers are now collecting views on the matter from relevant stakeholders.

The defacto Law Minister says amendments on the matter should be implemented in July next year, after the study is completed.
