Consumer groups are calling on eateries to stop charging their customers for plain water.

The Consumer Association of Penang told the NST that restaurants are already making a profit from their food and drinks…and should offer water for free.

Meanwhile the Federation of Malaysian Consumer Associations or FOMCA says charging around 30 sen for water is still acceptable…with anything more being unfair on the consumer.

Their comments come following reports that some food outlets were charging as much as 1 ringgit for water.
