vloggers and fans camp at china’s olympic diver quan hongchan’s village
Quan Hongchan, the incredible diver from China, is only 14-years-old but she has already bagged the gold medal for the Women’s Diving 10m Platform final at the recent 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

She even managed to earn straight scores of 10 from all seven judges, more than once, during the competition.

Upon returning home, the diver received tremendous gifts from her home country and the public. They even transformed her village into a tourist site!

According to SCMP, Quan’s determination to learn and compete in diving is because of her ill mother.

“My mum is ill. I don’t know what illness she has because I don’t know how to pronounce that character. I just want to make money to get her medical treatment. I need to make a lot of money to cure her illness,” she said.

Quan’s mother is still recovering from a serious car accident in 2017, while her dad works as an orange farmer.

Right after her massive win, the diver’s little-known village soon became flooded with vloggers and fans who were eager to catch a glimpse of the Olympic gold medallist. It was reported that at least 2,000 people visited the village every day, causing major inconvenience.

Some tried to climb trees to get a better view of her home, some even knocked on Quan’s door to take selfies with her family members, and the most bizarre was fans stealing jackfruit from her home as souvenirs.

The village is now closed off to visitors.

“They can just send their regards. There’s no need to come here.” said Quan’s father, Quan Wenmao.

He added that he went back to work on his orange farm as usual after his daughter won the gold medal. Meanwhile, his wife, who is ill, has been busy dealing with the visitors as well.

Quan’s dream came true however, as a hospital in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province announced that they would provide a full range of medical services for her mother and her sick grandfather.

According to the Global Times, hospital officials said they were proud of Quan and were more than willing to help her family.
