Ever had muscles twitching involuntarily? Fear not. Muscle twitches in the hand or sometimes in the leg aren’t something to worry about.

“In a way, the body is at attention, meaning that the nerves are transmitting impulses they would normally ignore,” orthopaedist Dr Caroling Werkmeister explained. “As a result, there are brief and spontaneous contractions of so-called muscle fascicles, which are bundles of skeletal muscle fibres.”

Normally, this is nothing to worry about. However, there are rare cases in which the twitching is a side effect of medication or is caused by something more serious, such as nerve disorder. If you think your muscle twitches are not quite normal, it’s always a wise decision to consult a medical professional.

Nerves could be irritated from stress or too little rest. It’s always good to find ways to relax and a good night’s sleep is always a good trick to help muscles relax.
