There’s no denying that exercising and dieting are surefire ways of losing weight and achieving your ideal body shape. It takes a lot of effort, but it could be easier if you make these seven small changes to your lifestyle.
#1 Fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables contain many nutrients essential for good health and wellbeing. Ideally, you should fill half of your plate with vegetables, a quarter with protein and another quarter with carbohydrates.
#2 Eat what you want, when you want
When we diet, we might end up avoiding foods that we love, but eventually we end up giving in and eating more of that food than usual. Eating your favourite food when the craving strikes prevents it from building up.
#3 The rule of two bites
This informal diet rule applies whenever you’re eating something unhealthy. Take a bite, drink a glass of water, then bite again. This will trick you into feeling full faster, making you eat less.
#4 Start your day with protein
Protein-rich foods reduce the level of ghrelin – the hunger hormone – in your body. Eggs and Greek yoghurt are great high-protein foods to start your day with.
#5 Walk 2 minutes every hour
One major disadvantage of a desk job is that you don’t get much exercise during working hours. You can stay active by walking two minutes for every hour you spend sitting down.
#6 Never eat snacks from a packet
If you’re grazing on a snack while you work or watch TV, you may end up eating more than expected from a packet. Putting some in a small plate or bowl will help you control your intake.
#7 Drink warm beverages
A cup of tea or a glass of warm water before a meal helps to speed up digestion, improve blood circulation and increase your metabolic rate. This can even help slow down the body’s aging process.
