When you talk about award-winning comic books, there is one award you should always look out for- the Eisner Award.
The Eisner Award, named after comic-creator and legend, Will Eisner, is the comic book industry’s equivalent of the Academy Awards.
There are 6 nominations in each category and they're judged and voted on by comic book professionals. The winners will then be announced at the annual San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC).
This year, Malaysian comic creator, Erica Eng has been nominated for an Eisner Award for her webcomic series, Fried Rice.
According to the official description, Fried Rice is an autobiographical fiction about the life of a young girl living in Kuala Lumpur.

Erica Eng will be joining the ranks of some of Malaysia’s finest comic creators including Tan Eng Huat who was nominated in 2004 for his art on DC Comic’s Justice League of America… YES, THE Justice League; and Reimena Yee, who was nominated in 2018 for her work on The Carpet Merchant of Konstantiniyya.
Malaysian-born Singaporean comic creator, Sonny Liew won 3 Eisners for his work on The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye in 2017.
Erica Eng will be facing tough competition this year, alongside reMIND by Jason Brubaker, Cabramatta by Matt Huynh, Chuckwagon at The End of the World by Erik Lundy and The Eyes by Javi de Castro.
This year’s Eisners will be given out in July, but the method and exact dates have not been announced yet.
