The COVID-19 situation in the country has been kept at a healthy pace. In fact, we have been ranked among the top 5 countries in the world to contain the virus.

During yesterday’s press conference by the Health Ministry, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham said that the ministry is projecting zero new cases by mid-July, provided that people fully comply with the Recovery Movement Control Order's SOPs.

He added that the SOP focuses on social distancing, the public wearing face masks and keeping hands clean by washing or using hand sanitizer as frequently as possible.

The low number of new cases and high discharge gave confidence that we can achieve a milestone by mid next month.

The statistics from a report from the New England Journal of Medicine which stated that social distancing could contribute to a 65% drop in new infections.

Dr Noor Hisham praised Malaysians for showing good compliance to the SOPs and stressed that the goal of not having any new cases can be achieved. He also explained that social gatherings like weddings and birthday parties will be allowed from 1 July onwards because the COVID-19 situation in the country has been well-managed so far.

“If there’s a spread of COVID-19 cases at the events or localities, we will close the venue or hotel,” he added.

Nonetheless, stay safe, stay vigilant and practice good social distancing and hygiene standards.
