9,015 domestic violence cases have been reported during the pandemic

9,015 police reports have been lodged for domestic violence ever since the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) started last year.

According to the Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun, there were 5,657 cases in 2019 as compared to the 5,260 cases from 2020.

As for 2021, 4,905 cases have been reported from January to October.

Rina added that the ministry has set up different initiatives against domestic abuse, including the change in operating hours for Talian Kasih 1599 and its online application to be a 24-hour one-stop contact point.

Talian Kasih has received 2,286 complaints from March to December 2020 and 2,248 complaints from January to August 2021.
