When you watch people paint the walls of their houses, did you think that they were using one type of paint? We did, too—once upon a time when we had no idea what we were doing 😅. Then, we started figuring out about coating systems and ways to make the paint more effective.

So, if you’ve been thinking of painting your house walls but are a newbie about it, you’re at the right article. Here are some of the steps you can take:

Step 1: Do your research!

You’re on the right track because you’re reading our article. If you need inspiration for colours, you can check out our article for some inspiration. You can also register for a consultation with Nippon Paint Malaysia to figure out what colours suit your walls best.

Step 2: Prep your walls

Inspect your exterior walls and clean off dust and dirt using a high pressure water jet, and remove any loose paint film. If there are uneven surfaces, smooth it over with a scraper and use a filler to cover the holes.

Got mould growth on your walls? Use Nippon Fungicidal Wash and leave it on the surface for 24 hours before painting. Need more info? We’ve talked about how to remove mould here.

Step 3: Prime

Before you begin painting, coat the wall with a sealer to ensure better adhesion of paint and increase paint durability.

But wait—you need to know what kind of sealer you’re supposed to use. If you’re painting over new walls, you can apply 1 coat of Nippon 8000 Advance Sealer or Nippon 5100 Sealer. If you’re repainting, use 1 coat of Nippon Acrylic 5170 Wall Sealer.

Check the label on your sealer to see how long you have to wait before you can start painting.

Step 4: Paint

It’s time to paint! We assume that while doing Step 1, you’ve already decided on the colours for your walls and chosen a high-quality paint that’ll give long-lasting performance and protection for your walls.

If you haven’t, then we recommend the Nippon Paint Weatherbond range!

Why is Nippon Paint Weatherbond range special?

They can withstand the harsh and unpredictable Malaysian weather as it is sun-proof and rain-proof. It’s also anti-fungus, so you don’t have to worry about icky mould growing on your walls.

Plus, you can register for a 7-year warranty for walls from Nippon Paint Malaysia. If you’re considering this, read an article we wrote about the perks of the warranty here.

Happy painting!
